||Graphite films are also used for tribological applications. As a top coating on a hard wear-protection system they here perform an additional dry-lubricating function. Another area of application is in electronics where they are used for conductive tracks and as resistive film. Other uses include coating specimens for scanning electron microscopy, thereby making the surfaces of non-conductive samples electrically conductive to permit them to be displayed in this form of microscopy.
In most cases the films are deposited by PVD, although CVD methods are also used.
